First Five Minutes on OpenBSD 6.2

Install the system

Patch the system

First, su -l into root. You should land in the root home directory.

su -l

Next, download the openup utility from M:Tier which will patch the system and update packages automatically. It uses only built-in tools, so there are no dependencies.

Then make it executable.

chmod +x openup

At this point you should run openup and let it run.

Then reboot to make sure all kernel changes are applied.

Server Setup

If you’d like to use OpenBSD as a server, then follow the steps in this section. If you’d prefer to use it as a workstation, continue to the next section after glancing over the content here.
